The Hartfield Road Car Park Development – The P3 site SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT?

A detailed planning application has been submitted for the development of the ‘P3’ site, the Hartfield Road Car Park, a site for which Merton Council is both the vendor and also the planning authority. The plans show a dense 'mixed use' development 8 storeys above ground and 3 beneath, including a hotel, low cost and private housing, shopping and basement car park. The Forum will review the proposals and asks is this sustainable development? Chaired by Marcus Beale RIBA, Chair of the Civic Forum Urban Design Task Force, with speaker Steve Clark Head of Planning at LB Merton. Plans of the development will be on display at the forum meeting.

This is a request relating to the meeting on the 14th November on the development of Wimbledon.
On behalf of Wimbledon Choral society and other similar organisations, could a key issue to be discussed be the development of a new Concert Hall. This needs to be large enough to seat the large audiences which attend concerts and similar events of societies of the size of Wimbledon Choral.
A replacement hall was promised when the old Civic Hall was demolished. A small replacement was discussed but that is not appropriate. There is no venue of sufficient size in the borough and concerts have to be held as far away as Croydon and Guildford.
A multi-purpose development would be appropriate as long as the seating is substantial.
