Welcome to the completely new and updated Wimbledon Civic Forum website. The new site features a number of significant changes and improvements over the previous version, which we hope will greatly facilitate discussion whilst retaining access to all reference material from years past. Here is a breakdown of the new features;
- The Forums and Messageboard sections are now fully integrated – you’ll find each of the forums listed in the Messageboard area along with a Local News and Miscellaneous forum. All previous meeting notes from the old website have been transferred to the relevant Messageboard forum on the new website.
- The Messageboard itself is now split across the sections mentioned above, so that messages can be posted in the relevant area. Each forum is also ‘thread-based’, meaning it is possible to post replies to each topic (rather than individual posts, which was previously the case).
- All future meeting notes from any Forums held will be posted to the Messageboard for users to comment on. We hope that this will facilitate the continuation of discussions beyond the event itself to a wider community.
- The What’s On section now includes the ability for users to post events themselves, with links to venue information and external websites. Its also possible to link each event to a Messageboard topic (see some of the past events we’ve transferred as examples). All past events will remain on the site (in the ‘past events’ area), so that meeting notes can be accessed direct from the What’s On section. Upcoming events are also listed on the Homepage.
- The site search function will search the entire site for keywords. There is a huge amount of information contained on the site dating back to 1999, so use the search feature if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
- All user log-ins from the old Messageboard have been migrated (up to May 2009), so you should still be able to log-in to the new site with your old log-in details. The entire existing Messageboard has also been moved for reference to a read-only archive within the Messageboard area.
- You must now have a user log-in to post events and messages. If you don’t have one you can create one – just follow the ‘register’ link on the right, below the navigation bar or beneath this post.
- Some of the more recent Messageboard posts that contain discussions still ongoing have been moved to the relevant Forums on the new site. You’ll see the most recent of these displayed on the Homepage.
I hope the improvements are well received. However if you have any questions or suggestions about the new site please post them here, and Marcus or I will do our best to answer them.
