90 artists are signed up for the very first Merton Arts Trail. We have been amazed at how many there are of you out there, and of the sheer quality of the work you are producing. The catalogue is looking very impressive as a result, so thanks for all your images, and to our designer, William Brown, who has put it all together with a map (sponsored by Robert Holmes) showing where you all are.
There will be an exhibition, in the ruins of the Chapter House at Merton Abbey Mills. This historic place, under the road between the Savacentre and the Mills, is newly open to the public, and the exhibition has been scheduled to coincide with the Arts Trail, and is generously sponsored by Marcus Beale Architects. There will be items on loan from the Museum of London alongside the 10 planned art installations, which are being made in response to the site.
Merton Abbey Mills are sponsoring an exhibition of artworks by Ricards Lodge and Rutlish School, plus there will be arts activities for young children under the Band Stand there.
ACAVA have sponsored all the art studios at the sites in Lombard Road, at Phipps Bridge and in the Cannizaro Potting Sheds, making a total of around 30 open studios of local artists.
The Merton Arts Society and the Worple Group will also be represented, as will the Community Centre in St George’s Street. There are also several small groups of artists showing around the Borough, and many, many individuals.

Just been to the opening of the Merton Arts Trail at Merton Priory Chapter House. It’s stunning, highly recommended. On until 16 October at weekends, admission free.
