Regaining the Streets - meeting
21st November 2003 - Drake House

Panellists:
Julian Peterson - manager of the Watershed
Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens - Borough Commander, Metropolitan police
Inspector Alan Heaton - Metropolitan police
Michael Denton - local resident and activist
and Roger Casale MP
Chaired by Marcus Beale

A lively debate, with 20 attendees and representations by email, on the bulletin board, and by telephone. Main points:

Towards developing a local policy on licensed premises and late night licences.

- Planning use A3, food and drink - should be broken down to differentiate between pubs and restaurants.
- No more pubs in Wimbledon
- No new licence unless another licence closes, to achieve a reasonable level - consider reducing number of licences
- Tax on pubs to resource policing
- De-restrict licensing laws and times of opening on a national level - Wimbledon not a pilot
- Rules for granting of late licenses
- Long term education policy - common, community responsibility
- Local authority or local press - name and shame

Fuller notes of the meeting will be posted soon.
Do email or write on the bulletin board with any comments..
