Collateral Damage 1918 to 2018--Commerating war victims and building peace

November 2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War One.

Wars have continued around the world since but now 90% of war victims are civilians (often called “collateral damage” by the military).

The Collateral Damage project invites us to make a textile poppy to honour victims of wars in the last century. Whether simple or highly decorated, knitted or fabric, each poppy will be as unique as each human life lost in war.

The Collateral Damage project is staging free poppy-making workshops and displays at local libraries to commemorate the victims of war.

Poppies can be sent to join a mass installation in Central London or to either Wimbledon Library or Merton Heritage Centre.

The displays in Wimbledon Library and the Merton Heritage Centre are open from 3 July to 1 September.

The drop-in workshop at Wimbledon Library will provide materials and children are welcome when accompanied by a responsible adult. Drop-in: 11 July, 11:00am – 3:00pm.

    Merton Heritage Centre: drop-in 16 August, 11:00am – 3:00pm.
