Executive Committee report to the Governing Council
Meeting
8 July 2003
1. Forum events
Since the last Governing Council meeting on 8 April
the following activities have taken place. Some are
WCF events and others are related events supported and
publicised by WCF:
24 April Wimbledon Area Forum
29 April Health Forum - the next 3 years of the local
NHS
2 May Transport Forum - town centre traffic improvements
22 May - Urban Design - The Civic Hall
5 June - Crime Forum - personal safety.
3 July Wimbledon Area Forum.
Additionally, we have been involved in:
Closure of Wimbledon Park Hall, we participated in
two meetings between the leader of the council, senior
officers, and representatives of Wimbledon Park residents,
who are now participating with the council in establishing
need and developing the planning brief for a replacement
facility.
Merton Priory. We have participated in the setting
up of a charitable trust to create a new information
and heritage centre on the Merton Priory site.
South Wimbledon proposed conservation area. We have
assisted local residents in the 'battles' area in preparing
a case to become a conservation area.
Architecture Week. WCF co-sponsored an exhibition of
children's work at Centre Court Shopping 24-30 June.
Wimbledon Village Fair. We had a stall at this event
on 21 June, and handed out 250 leaflets.
Fund raising. Two seminars have been held with the
help of Robert Devcic, towards a coordinated fund raising
effort this September.
Future events: these will be reported verbally at the
meeting.
2. Administration.
Helen Clark Bell has continued her involvement in the
forum working from MBA offices at Tuition House. We
need volunteers to help maintain the database and update
the web site.
Web site: traffic continues at an average of about
100 page requests per day.
3. Outreach
Wimbledon Civic Forum needs new blood - people interested
in community participation. Please keep looking out
for such people and put them in touch with the Forum.
4. Future Work.
Themes for future work. We continue to ask the Governing
Council to identify themes.
